Kick off spring with these 5 gluten free picnic recipes

Kick off spring with these 5 gluten free picnic recipes

We’ve got gluten free picnic recipes on the brain. With spring (and bathing suit weather) just around the corner, we decided it was time to pull out the old wicker basket and start whipping up some healthy, gluten free picnic ideas. So we popped a couple Chai VerMints (a warm, spicy homage to the last days of winter) and settled into the kitchen to plan the perfect gluten free picnic menu:

Lemon, Sun-Dried Tomato, and Almond Quinoa Salad

Nothing says spring like salad. Unfortunately, organic greens and blankets in the sun don’t really agree. Quinoa, on the other hand, makes a fantastic, protein-rich salad base that won’t wilt on you. The lemon helps keep this quinoa picnic recipe tasting fresh, and the sun-dried tomatoes and almonds add a delicious texture. The whole thing only takes about 20 minutes to make and it tastes great warm or cold.

    Crusty French Baguette

When you cut out gluten, bread tends to be one of the first things to go. But what’s a picnic without a fresh, warm, crusty baguette? The Gluten Free Lifesaver has come to your rescue with this recipe for perfect, crusty, gluten-free French baguettes. Serve with jam, cheese, or the Serious Hummus recipe below.

    Serious Hummus

Kyla Roma took one of our favorite hummus recipes of all time (Holy Moly Hummus from the vegan bible, How It All Vegan) and created a new, simplified, picnic-perfect dip. Serious Hummus is easy to make and packs a garlicky punch. If your picnic happens to be a date, we recommend stashing some organic mints in your basket to ensure fresh breath during post-meal smooches.

    Green Tea Lemonade

Lemonade is a quintessential picnic refreshment. The only problem is all that added sugar, which is no friend to your get-in-shape-for-the-summer lifestyle. So here’s a refreshing gluten free picnic idea: swap the processed grocery store brand for this homemade, sugar-free Green Tea Lemonade. It’s refreshing, hydrating, and full of age-defying antioxidants — the perfect bevvie choice for your gluten free picnic. In a rush to get on your way outside? Sub half the boiling water for ice.

    Healthy 3 Ingredient Flourless Brownies

Just because you’re minding your waistlines doesn’t mean you have to skip dessert. These brownies are vegan, gluten free, and contain zero refined sugar. Yet they’re still rich and fudgy. The best part is, they contain just a few ingredients which makes them a snap to make. When it comes to gluten free picnic recipes, it’s best to keep it simple. We recommend whipping these brownies up the day before your picnic and letting them set in the fridge overnight.
